Steven Saulter, 51, is suspected in even more break-ins that are currently under investigation, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said.

A truck driver by trade, Saulter became a suspect in a series of home burglaries in and around Bergen County, Calo said.

He was arrested after search warrants were executed at his home and at another location, in Teaneck, the prosecutor said.

As it stood Monday, Saulter was charged with burglaries in Carlstadt, Elmwood Park and Glen Rock.

He remained held in the Bergen County Jail on several burglary and theft charges after a judge denied his release this past Friday following a Jan. 17 arrest.

Similar break-ins remain under investigation in Mahwah, Saddle River and Tenafly, authorities said.

Saulter was charged with burglary and theft in 2012 after Fort Lee police said he and two accomplices – all wearing gloves and masks and carrying flashlights -- burglarized an English Street residence. One of the men was found hiding under a couch, they said.

That same year, Saulter and two other Bergen County men were with leading police on a high-speed chase on Route 78 – with speeds reaching 100 mph -- after burglarizing a Somerset County home.

Saulter later was sentenced to five years in prison, with parole eligibility after two years.

In 1995, police charged Saulter with operating a drug facility near a school while on parole. He also was charged with aggravated assault out of Englewood in 2000.
